At Earth Day Texas, we believe in the importance of creating and supporting the innovations that will bring us a more sustainable future for the next generation. That is why we have included fun and interactive events and exhibits for children and families to get involved. It is also one of the reasons why we made admission for our event completely free so that the whole family can attend! Check out our top five picks for a family-friendly and eco-friendly weekend at Earth Day Texas!
Lego Build the Change
The Lego Build the Change exhibit is back again for Earth Day Texas 2017! Join us for the three-day
building event “A, Bee, Seas” where your aspiring environmental architect has the creative freedom to play with millions of Lego blocks to build their version of a more sustainable, eco-friendly future. This exhibit is the perfect reflection of our mission at EDTx17, as we put significant emphasis on the protection of our oceans and pollinators at this year’s event. So, head to the Food and Fiber building during your time at Earth Day Texas and inspire your little one to build the change!
Tree Climbers International
Learn to climb a tree rope and harness style! Join the Arborilogical Services and their professional tree climbing instructors for a day of learning about the beautiful and historic oak trees of Fair Park while climbing to the top of one. This interactive exhibit will be at the Court of Honor near the Hall of State building. Bring your camera; your child is sure to be smiling in their harness!
It’s an animal house!
From cheetahs to kangaroos, giant tortoises to chinchillas, we have a spectacular lineup of furry friends coming to Earth Day Texas! Head over to the Creature Teacher exhibit in the Food and Fiber building to see a whole host of exotic animals. Next walk over to the Wild Things Zoofari petting zoo where you and your child can get up close and personal with the cutest four-legged friends. The Dallas Zoo will also be joining the festivities bringing a cheetah, an anteater and a sloth!
Green Toy booth
Next, walk over to the Green Toy booth in the Fiber and Food building where you’ll find a variety of eco-safe and eco-educational toys for your kids. This is the perfect place to play and learn, which is what we’re all about at Earth Day Texas!
Catch one of our family-friendly screenings at the first-ever EarthxFilm Festival at Earth Day Texas! This educational film festival features a variety of amazing films by creators from all over the world. Like the “Flight of the Butterflies” film where you can watch millions of butterflies on an amazing journey to a remote and secret hideaway, and one scientist’s 40-year search to unravel the mystery of their travels. The film is only 15 minutes long and will be shown every 30 minutes all weekend long. You can also attend one of our late-night outdoor screenings of “Pete’s Dragon” or “Ferngully”!
There is something for everyone at Earth Day Texas 2017. Head to Fair Park this weekend, April 21-23, for an eco-friendly weekend with the family. Admission is FREE!
Pro tip: Lower your carbon footprint even more and take your green weekend one step further by taking the Dart to Fair Park. Save on parking too!
