park ranger builds a fire and boy scout watches

A National Parks ranger teaches a group of boy scouts how to build a fire at Earth Day Texas 2015.

In a world focused on chasing the next best thing, it is easy to forget about the magnificent stillness of our country’s natural beauty. For nearly a century, the National Parks Conservation Association has been protecting our precious landscape and wildlife for present and future generations to enjoy.

Founded in 1916, the National Park Service (NPS), along with National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA), founded in 1919, is celebrating the NPS Centennial at Earth Day Texas 2016! With 410 national park sites across the U.S., visitors of Earth Day Texas will find out how they can see these beautiful national treasures themselves. As part of the Fourth Grade – Every Kid in a Park initiative, NPCA will also be signing up fourth graders and their families for free passes to all of our nation’s parks. Celebrate the organization’s history and unique features with real park rangers, family activities and outdoor fun throughout the weekend.

Join us in celebrating 100 years of conservation!
