EARTHx Welcomed More than 100,000 Attendees to Celebrate Earth Day
This year’s event featured new environmental programs, business conferences, special events, EARTHxFilm, and national & global leaders
DALLAS (May 2, 2017) – EARTHx, formerly known as Earth Day Texas, hosted the nation’s largest Earth Day celebration on April 19-23 at Fair Park in Dallas. The seventh annual event attracted more than 100,000 people to experience new exhibits, programs, films, and educational opportunities, as well as provided new conferences and events to engage the business community. This year’s event covered more than 1 million square feet of Fair Park and featured 1,800 installations and more than 900 businesses, organizations and government entities.
“It was rewarding to witness the number of people and various organizational partners who supported us this year, said Ryan Brown, EARTHx CEO. “As EARTHx, we are becoming a global movement and want our event to be a world destination for ongoing conversations and positive environmental impact.”
As part of the organizations’ recent growth and interest from the business community, EARTHx hosted a five-day event for the first time, which included a series of conferences and special events such as:
Highly-acclaimed scientists, engineers, educators, business executives and former politicians attended the event, including notable speakers Rick Perry, U.S. Secretary of Energy, General Wesley Clarke, Sr. (Ret.), Sylvia Earle, PhD, & Katharine Hayhoe, PhD.
More than 4,100 people attended EARTHx Film, which featured 20 new environmentally-focused films as well as 25 short films as part of the Youth Filmmaking Competition. The EARTHxGlobal Gala awarded the Global Impact Award to ocean activist Paul Watson of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, famed ocean explorer Dr. Sylvia Earle, the World Bank’s Connect4Climate program, and the Center for Environmental Health. More than 280 guests attended the star-studded event and raised thousands of dollars towards the youth filmmaking program to encourage interest and on-going education in environmentally-focused films.
The event coincided with the Dallas’ March for Science on April 22, which began at City Hall and ended in Fair Park, where Founder Trammell S. Crow and Dr. Earle welcomed the public and shared remarks about the importance of the environment and staying engaged.
