Nearly every piece of plastic ever created still exists today and the material constitutes approximately 90 percent of all trash floating on the ocean’s surface, with 46,000 pieces of plastic per square mile. Our oceans need our help…

So what can you do about it? Join us at the premier event designed to stimulate greater corporate and grassroots support to protect our oceans, from America’s Heartland to the coast, through education, networking, collaboration and participation. We will ignite a conversation surrounding the future of plastics and the role each of us can play to eliminate the large quantity of single use plastics that, all too often, find their way into our waterways and eventually, our oceans.

THE EARTHIKE CHALLENGE

The Problem

In the Los Angeles Area alone, 10 metric tons (that’s over 22,000 lbs!) of plastic fragments – like grocery bags, straws and water bottles – are carried into the ocean every single day.

The Solution

Eliminate the large quantity of single use plastics that find their way into our waterways and eventually our oceans. To keep these plastics from littering our communities in the first place, we can all take a step outside and take an EARTHIKE!

What is EARTHIKE?

By World Oceans Day on June 8, 2017, you can protect our oceans in a few simple steps

1.) Get outdoors in your neighborhood. Be sure to bring a bag (maybe an old single use grocery bag!) and an old pair of gloves with you.

2.) Pick up trash along the "trail" and “stash” it in your collection bag.

3.) Snap a photo of what you collected on your EARTHIKE, recycle what you can and properly discard the rest!

4.) Post it to our EARTHIKE Facebook page and don’t forget to tag #EARTHIKE

What is EARTHIKE?

“Anything else you're interested in is not going to happen if you can't breathe the air and drink the water. Don't sit this one out. Do something.”
